Phenology and Climatology

Here we go again ! As in 2013, 2014 was also very watered but was warmer overall (except in May and August) especially from September which made it possible to reach polyphenolic maturity. The fairly mild winter caused a bud break in early April. Then the growth of the plant was dazzling until the stage 7-8 leaves spread. The cool temperatures in May got the better of this advance. Despite heavy rainfall, flowering went well. We did not have to deplore too much shatter. Of course, parasite pressure was very high throughout the season, notably with very virulent Black Rot attacks at the start of the campaign and not foreseen by the various models. The very good weather and the heat of September and October finally allowed the vines to be put into good storage, the berries to mature well, and above all did not allow Botrytis to invite itself to the harvest. Result, a trying campaign for the winegrower but ultimately a very nice result in the vats. 2014 will mark our first organic protection vinification.

Tasting notes

Red color, matte, deep, dark cherry red color. The first nose is toasted, mixed with notes of ripe fruit like strawberry, blackberry, supported by a hint of vanilla. In mouth it's creamy, fresh and toned. The ashy, chalky tannins, still young, give notes of blond tobacco. For the moment the mouth is square, boxed, dense. Keeping it or passing it in a decanter, if opened early, will give length to the wine which for the moment remains dormant and folded over itself. The aromatic return is chocolate and mint.

Presentation

2014 signs a notable development with the arrival of consultant oenologist Julien BELLE. The roadmap is drawn and shared. A beautiful bond was born. We are developing our first vintage in organic protection. The wahoo effect is here! At the end of fermentation our wine is a pure ball of fruit. At the same time, we are diversifying the range of barrels by integrating new coopers and rotating the barrels over 2 years instead of 3. Surprise! 6 months after bottling, thanks to intense fruitiness and beautiful freshness, the 2014 is already ready to drink. The balance, the precision of the tannins which polish over time and the slow evolution of the fruit aromas of this wine now give it a beautiful elegance.
